Dad's Favorite Devil's Food Cake
2/3 cup Crisco
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs (1/2 to 2/3 cup)
2 1/2 squares unsweetened chocolate (2 1/2 ounces) melted and cooled.
2 1/4 cups sifted Softasilk Cake Flour
OR
2 1/8 cups sifted all purpose flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1 1/2 cups sugar

1 1/4 cups buttermilk
Cream together Crisco and sugar until fluffy.
Beat in the eggs thoroughly.
Blend in the cooled chocolate.
Sift together the dry ingredients and stir in alternately with buttermilk.
Pour into greased and floured pans (two 9" layer pans or one 13" x 9" pan) and bake at 350° until cake tests done (30 - 35 minutes for the layers or 40 - 45 minutes for the loaf pan.)
Cool.
