Mary Mead's Ginger Bread

1/4 cup Spry (Crisco)
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup hot water
1/2 cup sorghum (molasses)
1 1/4 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1/2 cup nuts (optional)
Cream Spry and sugar.
Put hot water over sorghum.
Beat in eggs and sorghum mixture.
Sift together flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, salt, and ginger.
Add dry ingredients, optional nuts, and mix until smooth.
Bake at 350° for 35 - 40 minutes.
Remove from oven, pour Orange Glaze over top, and return to oven for 10 minutes.

Orange Glaze

1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup orange juice
Boil for 5 minutes.
